Congo Free State, 1888

On a mission deep in the jungle, Oxford anthropologist James Litchfield comes face-to-face with a local legend a wild man who wanders with mountain gorillas and lives as one of their own.

The chance encounter with the savage, whom James calls Michael, leads to a game of observation and exploration. Their mutual curiosity turns to an attraction—one that Michael has never experienced and James is desperate to deny.

When members of the expedition unearth James's secret discovery—a living specimen of man at his most primitive—Michael becomes a pawn in their quest for fame.

As their relationship deepens, James is compelled to protect Michael from the academics who would treat him as nothing more than a scientific acquisition and London society, which threatens to destroy their passionate bond...

As she did with Peter & Wendell (aka Loving Peter), Bonnie Dee has taken an English literature classic and turned it on its head to look at it from a gay point0of-view. In Peter & Wendell, she gave us a rakish, free-spirited Peter Pan and a somewhat reclusive, shy, and ultimately willing Wendy.

In Jungle Heat, we've got Tarzan meets Jane. And it's a heck of a meeting and a jungle full of heat and danger and intrigue and Victorian stupidity and even some evil thrown in along the way.

But in the end, even though this can be a slow-moving narrative at times, this one not only hits the mark, but swings from the trees. A superb retelling of an original idea, and a book no one interested in true historical m/m romance should miss.

Jungle Heat edition by Bonnie Dee Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I loved this story. It was a great mix of passion and plot. It was a great escape story - something to help me wind down after a busy week at work. I loved the setting and the characters were very interesting.
A sensitive, lyrical rendition of the Tarzan story, with an MM twist. Loved the wild hero - I swear this author has a background in anthropology after reading this assimilation of a primitively raised man into 'modern' 1880's society. It was just perfectly done.
This is one of the best books I have ever read, excellent plot, and the love scenes were beautiful, a truly wonderful end to a wonderful love story. I could not put this book down. Miss Dee is a wonderful writer of gay genre...
I am amazed at this spin off an old classic. I was sceptical at first but the author managed to weave a story full of adventure and love. Michael and James are well written and I enjoyed their journey.
This is an interesting story and on some level very believable. We must bare in mind that this is fiction and in 1888 even, things would not, likely, go this smoothly. I found it interesting enough to hold my attention and am always glad to have a happy ending. There is a lot of room here for a follow-up or expanded story. It is worth the read.
Michael and James are both likable characters and their emotions, as well as their love story, feel 'real' Most of the plot twists and their interactions were realistic. Frankly, the beginning started off a bit slow and she certainly liked her flowery language. Never before have I heard of a foreskin described as a cowl but whatever.

It felt true to Historical Romance and how the genre was written 10 years ago-- ie let-me-describe-everything-to-death -so-you-really-feel-like-you-are-there. I prefer the more modern approach to historical rom which dispenses with that but for a lot of people it will only add to the experience.

This was a very sweet love story with some fairly spicy sex scenes even if they were a bit repetitive. I believe every act happened in three's but am not totally sure.

All in all, this is definitely a cut above most m/m romance.
James is a anthropologist who is a trip to study the local tribes of the Congo. While on his adventure he stubles upon a man who has been living in the jungle all by himself. The legends of him is that he was raised by apes since he was a child. James is curious about the man and the ape man is curious about him. Together they start interacting and James teaches the ape man, who he names Michael how to speak and read. While they are teaching each other the other men of Jame's expedition find out about the ape man and want to bring him back to civilization to have fame and fortune when they return to London. James and Michael have created a unique bond and they just want each other without having the fame and fortune. They will learn to trust each other to hopefully gain their freedom together.

This story was so great that it snuck up on me. It was a bond that grew slowly and two men learned to love each other without many words between them. I loved James and Michael and was happy the way this story ended. I loved it!
